WHICH KIT WILL GIVE ME THE BEST PERFORMANCE?
If your looking for ulitimate performance you need your induction system to achieve the following:
- - Minimum air flow restriction (use a high flow filter and large bore pipe work).
- - Cold air supply (use an enclosed airbox or high quality air feed).
If you vehicle is in a low state of tune we recommend enclosed airboxes for best performance on the subaru impreza. However, if your engine is in a high state of tune an enclosed system may restrict air flow too much, at this point we recommend an open cone system for maximum air flow, however to ensure peak performance you should combine any open cone filter with a good quality cold air feed kit.

WHICH FILTER MATERIAL SHOULD I CHOOSE?
There are three main choices of performance filter on the market; cotton (BMC, K&N) foam (Pipercross) and stainless steel (Powertec, Quikshift). All of these variants will provide increased air flow over stock paper filters, which is a key factor in yielding higher performance from your engine.
Cotton filters are one of the most popular choices on the market, they filter air very effectively but must be oiled to work effectively. If the filter is over-oiled the oil can be drawn in to your engine through the induction system. For some Subaru models, especially later Imprezas, the oil can damage your vehicles air flow meter, however most vehicle specific filter kits have been designed with these problems in mind, but it is worth considering this point if your thinking of building a bespoke induction kit. Foam filters do a very similar job to cotton equivalents, but can also be run dry if required. Stainless steel filters use a very fine woven steel mesh. The consistent weeve means they do not need to be oiled for easy maintenance. Stainless steel filters also give an awesome raspy induction sound thanks to their unique design and reduced silencing qualities.
